Uniform

1. Uniform

Students are expected to be in full uniform every day and all items of school uniform are to be maintained in a clean and neat condition.

The junior uniform, to be worn by all students in First, Second and Third Years, is to consist solely and exclusively of the following:

  • ‘Vivaldi’ navy-blue ‘v’ neck jumper (‘50-50’ - double rib - double cuff), crested, with double stripe in the ‘v’ only, consisting of maroon (upper stripe) and royal blue (lower stripe).
  • ‘Princeton’ grey, lined pants.
  • Plain white shirt.
  • Diagonally-striped maroon and royal-blue school tie.
  • “Norway” style softshell navy-blue jacket, with a wine collar, silver reflective piping and the official St. Jarlath’s College school crest.

The senior uniform, to be worn by all TY, Fifth and Sixth Year students, is to consist solely and exclusively of the following:

  • ‘Vivaldi’ navy-blue ‘v’ neck jumper (‘50-50’ - double rib - double cuff), crested, with double stripe in the ‘v’ only, consisting of maroon (upper stripe) and royal blue (lower stripe).
  • ‘Princeton’ grey, lined pants.
  • Plain white shirt.
  • Diagonally-striped maroon and royal-blue school tie.
  • Navy-blue blazer, crested on breast pocket.

Suppliers of this uniform at local, retail level are: Eamonn Geraghty Menswear and The Schoolwear Centre.

The Board insists on precisely the above uniform in the stated colours and designs, which should be obtained from the stated suppliers only.

In addition, attention is drawn to the following:

  • The blazer is exclusively for senior students; junior students will not be permitted to wear it.
  • The outer jacket is not compulsory for junior students, but no other jacket may be worn with the school uniform.
  • Senior students are permitted to wear an outer jacket of their own choosing provided it is black or navy in colour and plain in design. Jackets of any other colour and patterned jackets are not permitted. Senior students must remove outer jackets on entering the school building and store them in their locker/locker room during the school day.
  • The school crest has been made available to the companies supplying the jumpers and blazers. Only the exact form of the crest issued by the school to these companies may be used. Unauthorised use of the St. Jarlath’s College crest by any other persons is prohibited.
  • Footwear with this uniform is to consist of low-cut, plain, black leather shoes only. Shoes should not contain any white or coloured markings, laces or soles.

2. Personal Hygiene & Appearance

  • The highest standards of personal hygiene are expected from all students at all times.
  • Hair is to be worn neat and tidy at all times. In the interest of health and safety long hair may be required to be tied back for certain classes/subjects and at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Hair colour should be in the natural range only. Any hair colours outside of the natural range, extreme haircuts or unusual shaved patterns are not permitted. It is at the discretion of the school as to what is deemed natural colouring, extreme or unusual.
  • To ensure the health and safety of all students, rings, earrings, bracelets and any and all jewellery associated with body-piercings are strictly forbidden.
  • Tattoos or other forms of dying or otherwise colouring the skin should not be visible at any time.
