This was an historic year where we saw the first ever St. Jarlath’s ladies football team competing in the U-14 Connacht championship.
The girls did fantastically well in their championship games and came away with 2 wins from 3 games to see themselves through to the quarter finals.
The first game saw our girls defeat Archbishop McHale College in difficult weather conditions on a score line of 2-1 to 0-1. We were then defeated by a very strong Ballinrobe team. This left the last round of championship against Presentation college Headford. The team that could secure a win would make it through to the quarter final. This game was a thriller and St Jarlath’s ladies came out on top by the smallest of margins with a dramatic one-point victory. Final score 4-3 to 3-5.
The Quarter final proved to be one step too far and we were defeated by an excellent Pres Athenry outfit. Overall the girls showed great heart and determination and are well set up for another year playing football for Jarlath’s.
