St Jarlath’s College enjoyed a fantastic week with three positive league results on the rugby fields. On Tuesday the Seniors beat “The Bish” 19-12 with two tries from Liam Walsh at outside-centre and one from winger Martin O’Toole. This was the seniors second league game, having defeated Athlone CC the previous week by 27-26.
On Wednesday the Junior team secured their first victory of their league campaign with a bonus point 27-12 victory over Abbey CC with Conor Mullins starring at inside-centre scoring three tries. Joshua Canney also scored a try and Jarlath’s were awarded a penalty try.
On Thursday the U14s, representing the college for the first time in competitive sport, secured an excellent 24-17 league victory over Scoil Chuimsitheach Chiarain. Number eight Rian Murray capped a fantastic performance with two tries, Cian Hynes at out-half and Cian Hynes at lock also scored a try a piece. With 33 boys togged for this match and 30 Juniors togged on Wednesday the popularity of rugby continues to grow in the college.
