“Tuam's Star Shines Bright winning Pat McDonagh Business Award at St Jarlath's”
Derec Reynolds, a Leaving Cert student from St Jarlath’s class of 2022/2023, and proud member of Tuam Stars football Club has clinched the prestigious Pat McDonagh Business Award, marking the second consecutive year of its presentation. Sponsored by the N17 Plaza, this accolade and cash prize celebrates excellence in Business Studies firstly in St Jarlath’s College and further afield into 3rd level education.
Derec, currently in his first year of Global Commerce at the University of Galway, expresses immense satisfaction in his academic pursuits, particularly relishing the broad spectrum of business modules he is delving into as well as looking forward to his year abroad as part of his college course.
In his humble acceptance of the award, Derec attributes his success to his passion for the subject, acknowledging business as his paramount interest during his time at St Jarlath’s College. He extends heartfelt gratitude to all his teachers at the institution, cherishing the invaluable guidance and support they provided throughout his academic journey.
Supermac’s Managing Director Pat McDonagh, who presented the award on Wednesday morning in St Jarlath’s, remarked, “We are delighted to be presenting this award to Derec, who has proved to be an outstanding young student of business. Our young people are the entrepreneurs and business people of the future. They are the ones that will innovate and bring new ideas that will have a lasting impact on our country. Young business people have the capacity to change the world we are living in, and it is critically important that young people continue to study business as a subject in 2nd and 3rd level in order for them to realise their full potential. I would like to commend all the teachers and assistants at St Jarlath’s, led by President John Kelly, for their work to promote Business Studies in the school, and Derec of course, whose success is an inspiration to all of us.”
