Curriculum First Year to Junior Certificate All students study the following subjects to examination level: Irish, English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, French, Business Studies and CSPE. Students choose two from the following: Art, Music, Materials Technology Wood and Technical Graphics. Students do get an opportunity to sample all optional subjects prior to making a choice. The following non exam subjects are also compulsory: Physical Education, SPHE, Computers and Religion. Transition Year Students selecting to enrol in Transition Year embark on a one year educational programme immediately following the junior Certificate Exam year. Transition year offers students a unique opportunity to explore subject options prior to senior cycle and investigate career choices through work experience placement. In addition, throughout this year there will be an emphasis on personal development, social awareness and increased social competence. The program includes the following subjects; Irish, English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ag-Science, History, Environmental Studies, French, Business, IT, Art, Music, Politics, Theology, Philosophy, Politics and Film Studies. Fifth Year to Leaving Certificate At Senior Cycle all students take the following subjects to examination level: Irish, English and Maths Students choose four from the following; History, Geography, French, Business, Accounting, Music, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Applied Maths, Ag-Science, Construction Studies, Design and Communication Graphics and Art. Senior Students also have the opportunity to take the Leaving Cert Vocational Programme as an additional subject which runs over both senior cycle years. Full details of this course are available from the College or on PDST.ie. The following non exam subjects are also compulsory: Physical Education and Religion. Resource classes are provided to all qualifying students. Students exempt from studying Irish benefit from resource teaching during this time. All documents/ assessments must be submitted to the College with the Student Enrolment Form. This will facilitate timely applications for resource teaching hours/ SNA allocation, to the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). All efforts are made at both Junior and Senior Cycle to offer students the best level of choice. The subject groupings are not predetermined but are decided annually through consultation with the students, under the guidance of Ms. Joanne O’ Connor. The range of subjects offered is also partially dependent on the provision of funding and resources by the Department of Education and Skills.
