St. Jarlath’s has a long tradition of excelling in gaelic football. It has the distinction of having the most Hogan Cup (senior All-Ireland College Championship) victories of any college in Ireland at 12. St. Patrick’s College also had an illustrious tradition in Gaelic football, the senior team having won Connaught titles throughout its past, as well as taking part in a long and celebrated rivalry with neighbouring Jarlath’s. All in all, with the amalgamation taken into account, the new college can boast fifty all Connaught titles, making it Ireland’s premier Gaelic football school.
On Monday, January 27th at the Connacht Centre of excellence in Ballyhaunis St Jarlath’s Junior team saw off the challange of Summerhill College to win the Connacht Junior League. The final score was 2-9 to 1-3 with the goals coming from Dylan Canney and Joseph Lowry. The victorious panel are pictured above and there is also a shot of the winning captain, Dylan McHugh receiving the cup from Connacht Colleges official, Mr. Hugh Rudden.
