A strong and convincing argument that “violent rebellion is a right” helped St. Jarlath’s clinch the West of Ireland Schools Debating Championship recently.
The team of Daithí Kilgarriff and Ross O’Ceallaigh from St. Jarlath’s College, Tuam, were unanimously awarded the title after a fine display of debating skills in the final held in the Harbour Hotel in Galway, defeating strong teams from Coláiste Iognáid and Dominican College.
Daithí and Ross now go on to represent Connacht in the All-Ireland Final to be held in Trinity College next month, April 2011.
Wayne McDonagh, was a highly commended finalist in the Individual Speaker category in the same competition.
