Senior Debating – All Ireland Champions!

St. Jarlath’s  All- Ireland Debating Champions 2011
St. Jarlath’s College brought home the All –Ireland Schools Debating title to the West for only the second time in its 34 year history on Saturday, April 16th.
The outstanding team of Daithí  Kilgarriff ( Dunmore) and Ross O’Ceallaigh  (Tuam)  won the title after a robust  display of debating skills in the final held in the University College Cork, defeating teams from all around the country.

Daithí and Ross were convincing in their argument that the minimum wage should not be abolished. The seven strong adjudicating panel were highly impressed with the duo and  paid tribute to their skill and excellence in a closely fought competition.

This competition began last October and involved over 700 competitors from all four provinces. It is a truly remarkable achievement for the College and for Daithí and Ross who join the list of  past prestigious winners of the Dillon Shield. Congratulations to Daithí and Ross and to their coach and teacher Ms. Brighid Cannon.
