History Talk

On Monday 23rd October a former student of St. Jarlath’s College, Martin O’ Donoghue, spoke to fifth and sixth year history students about the events of Easter 1916 and The War of Independence that occurred in the Tuam area.
It was a fascinating lecture exploring the reasons behind the failure of the Rising in Galway and the increasing support for Sinn Fein in Tuam after the rising. Martin also spoke about the infamous burning of Tuam by the British Crown forces in July 1920 in retaliation for the murder of two RIC men by the IRA.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the talk and thanked Martin for the informative and interesting lecture.
