Awakening Concert 2017

IMG-20170505-WA0005Congratulations to the members of the Awakenings Choir on a fantastic concert in Breaffy Arena last night. Over 400 students participated in this event. Here are three of the St. Jarlath’s College students who performed solos: Keith Boyle singing “The Lord will Heal the Broken Heart” by Liam Lawton and Cian Forde and Alan Kelly dueting on ” One More Song” by David Haas. Well done to all students involved. Thanks to Connie Burke for her work preparing our students for the event!

Aaron is Captain of the Chess Team.

Cakongratulations to Second Year student, Aaron Keppel,  who  is Captain of the U16 Chess Team for the Dunmore/Garrafrauns/Kiltevna Community Games Area and he and his team will be representing Connacht in the Community Games All Ireland Finals in Abbottstown, Dublin on Saturday, 6th May, 2017.
On Friday, 6th March, 2017 the team became the Galway County Champions and on Saturday, 8th April, 2017 the team competed and won the title of Connacht U16 Chess Champions.
We wish Aaron and his team th every best of luck in the All Ireland!!

Awakening Concert 2017

Save the date!! An evening of uplifting church and contemporary music. This is a choral concert featuring over 400 TY and 5th Year students from 18 different schools in Mayo and Galway singing together in harmony.
Students from  St Jarlaths College  will be participating! It promises to be a wonderful night of entertainment. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to Pieta House.

Connacht Senior Schools’ Swimming

On Sunday January 8th a team from St Jarlath’s attended the Connacht Senior Schools Championships.
The boy’s performed excellently, with Ciarán Burke becoming the Connacht Senior Schools’ Champion in the 100 m backstroke and 4th in the 100 m  Freestyle.  
Oisín O’Rourke came 2nd in Intermediate 100 backstroke and  2nd in the 100m Freestyle. Sean Brennan came 3rd in the Junior 100 m back and 3rd in the 100 m butterfly.
The Boys Senior relay team of Ciarán Burke , Oisín O’Rourke , Diarmuid O’Rourke and Sean Brennan were 3rd in the Medley Relay and the Boys Senior Relay team of Ciarán Burke , Oisín O’Rourke, Ronan Colleran, Dara Heneghan were 3rd in the Freestyle Relay.
Ciarán and Oisín will now go forward to represent St. Jarlath’s and Connacht in the Schools’ Interprovincial in National Aquatic Centre in April.
Congratulations to all the boys on their achievements and good luck in April!

Gold Gaisce Award

 

Congratulations to past pupil Nathan Mannion, on receiving his Gold Gaisce Award from President Michael D. Higgins, on the 6th of December. Nathan is pictured here with St. Jarlath’s College,  Gaisce President’s Award Leaders, Mr. Andrew Marsden and Mr. Francis Stockwell, in Dublin Castle at the award ceremony.  
Nathan who already holds the Bronze and Silver Awards, is our first student to achieve this standard. We are extremely proud of Nathan who took part in a number of different activities in order to achieve this award. Nathan is currently studying at NUIG and we wish Nathan the very best of luck in the future.
We are very thankful to our staff leaders who worked with Nathan and all the other candidates, throughout their Gaisce journeys.
