Junior football had another very successful year in St. Jarlath’s, winning the championship against St Colman’s and reaching the league final. A very convincing Jarlath’s side lined up in Milltown to face old senior rivals St. Colman’s, with new management panel of John Duggan and Liam Quinn fielding a team with a tactically unique three man mid-field formation. The gamble paid off in spades, with 2 fantastic goals from Gearoid Armstrong and a stream of solid points from the likes of Pa Glynn and Ian Burke pushing the lads to a 2-13 to 7 points victory. After a great league semi-final performance (in which Jarlath’s’ backs and keeper completely shut out a terrified Gerard’s 6-9 to no score), they couldn’t repeat the magic as some sloppy defending from Jarlath’s backs eroded a halftime surplus with some Summerhill goals and an unfortunate loss. However, it’s clear from the successes this team did show that there’s great hope for Jarlath’s football in the coming years.
